If you're looking for some respite from the winter weather, without the expense of a long haul flight, Morocco is a great option!

Discover the ancient mosques and kaleidoscopic souks of the capital, the cobalt-blue streets of the mountain village of Chefchaouen or the old world charm of Tangiers; trek the majestic Atlas Mountains or ride a camel over the sand dunes of the Sahara, this fascinating North African nation has so much to do and see, and with warm temperatures, and plenty of affordable flights and hotels, it is the perfect destination for a mid-winter break!

Panama might be best-known for the gleaming skyscrapers of its capital, or perhaps its 82 km-long eponymous canal, but this often-overlooked Central American nation has so much to offer!

From fascinating, historic landmarks, to natural landscapes, (that include volcanoes, untouched, islands, beautiful beaches, cloud forests, and rugged peaks) the country boasts a wealth of incredible sights, and with daily temperatures ranging between a lovely, 24-32°C and little to no rain, its a great choice for a sun-soaked mid-winter trip!

Mexico truly shone in 2023, attracting a record number of international visitors, and it's not hard to see why. With Ancient archaeological treasures, colourful cities, soaring volcanoes, and stunning beaches, it's a truly intoxicating nation, rich in history, culture, and home to some of the finest gastronomy on earth!

There isn't a bad time to visit Mexico, though you can do worse than January. It is the middle of the dry season and conditions are perfect, think clear, blue skies, and temperatures in the high 20s. Though it is a popular time to visit, it is generally less crowded than December and February, and its also one of the best months for whale watching, plus, there are a number of cultural events and festivals including the wonderful Fiesta de Enero (January Festival) in the southern state of Chiapas.

South Africa

There is no end of good reasons to visit Africa's southernmost country, from the stunning scenery, (which encompasses everything from unspoilt white beaches to soaring peaks and biodiverse rainforests) to world-class gastronomy, spectacular wildlife, and endless adventure opportunities.

January offers great conditions to enjoy much of South Africa's extensive repertoire, and as it's in the same time zone as the UK, you'll avoid jet lag, which is always a bonus!

Widely regarded as the adventure capital of the world, the country is a must for thrill-seekers, with all manner of adrenaline-rich activities on offer. However, if you're after something a little more relaxing, perhaps a vineyard tour, a dip in a natural hot spring, or perusing the capital's best coffee shops is more to your taste.
