Kaikoura, New Zealand

New Zealnad is famous for it's sweeping landscapes, but it's waters are just as rich.

Kaikoura is the whale watching capital of New Zealand.

The sperm whale is what is mostly spotted in the New Zealand coastline. In fact Moby Dick was inspired by a sperm whale who actually swam the Southern Pacific waters in the 19th century. If you visit in June or July you could also get the change to catch the migrating humpbacks that are en-route to Tonga/Australia.

Tonga

After a lengthy migration from the Baltic waters of Antarctica, Humpback whales head to Tonga to their breeding grounds.

It's very rare you'll find open waters that allow swimming with humpback whales, but Tonga is one of the exceptions to the rule. You'll find humpback whales swimming in pods with a newborn calf, or even warming up their vocal chords with natures most impressive song!

Each year Southern Right Wales migrate from Antarctica and reach Western Cape in South Africa by June, for warmer waters.

There's a huge array of marine life around these waters. This area provides calving spots for the Whales that have made their trip North.

The Hauraki Gulf Marine Park is a vast area off of Auckland, New Zealand that provides extremely diverse and rare ocean life.

The Bryde's whales is critically endangered, and the Sperm Whale is available to see here year round. When taking a trip around the Hauraki Gulf it is also possible for you to see albatross and Dolphins.

It is possible to book tours with Viator, that takes you on a luxury catamaran from the New Zealand Maritime Museum at Viaduct Harbour. While whales can't be guaranteed, there's plenty of other lots of wildlife on this trip.

California, United States

Baja California's San Ignacio Lagoon is the bithplace to lots of Pacific Gray Whales every year.

The El Vizcaíno Biosphere Reserve is between the Gulf of California and the Pacific Ocean and is the largest wildlife refuge in Latin America.
