Welcome to Nepal's kaleidoscopic capital city, a mosaic of maze-like streets,m beautiful old temples, shrines and palaces, surrounded by the Himalayan mountains. Your tour begins with a welcome meeting at 2 pm, and then you're free to explore the sights of the city, such as the Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), or the iconic Boudhanath Stupa.
After spending the night in Kathmandu, you'll board an early flight (approx 6.30am) to Lukla. The journey takes about 45 mins, and if the weather is good, you'll be treated to some spectacular views from the aircraft! Upon your arrival in Lukla, you'll enjoy some breakfast, followed by a brief safety talk and introduction to our porters, and then it's time to gear up and begin your trek! today's walk is relatively gentle, following the Dudh Kosi River for approximately three hours to reach Phakding (2610 m) where you'll spend the night.
After breakfast, it's time to depart for Namche Bazaar. Your trail follows the river valley and is fringed by a beautiful, pine forest, and an array of colourful flora. Crossing the Dudh Kosi River at Benkar, you'll enjoy striking views of the snow-capped peaks of Kusum Kanguru (6369m) and Thamserku (6623m). After breaking for lunch at Monjo (2835m), you'll begin a steeper ascent to your destination, entering the national park, you'll pass through the village of Jorsale (2805m), and over a beautiful suspension bridge, before reaching Namche Bazaar where you'll get your first glimpse of Everest's peak.
In order to acclimatise to the altitude, you'll spend another night in Namche Bazaar. A strenuous walk to high altitude and then back down to sleep is a great way to do this, and so you'll have the option of a walk above the Bhote Khola River Valley towards Thami (3810m), or to see both the sunrise and sunset views from the national park headquarters above the village, which also boasts stunning vistas of the Khumbu peaks and Everest itself!
After breakfast, you'll head to your next destination trekking for 6/7 hours to the Sherpa village of Phortse Gaon. The village is home to a number of Sherpas who have reached Everest's summit and is a great opportunity to gain some fascinating insights into the life and culture of these mountain-dwelling people.
Today's destination is Dingboche, another small Sherpa village home to numerous small fields which are framed by stone walls that protect the crops from the icy winds. Though Everest might be hidden behind Lhotse-Nuptse Ridge, you'll be treated to awe-inspiring panoramic vistas of Ama Dablam, and the south face of Lhotse (the fourth highest mountain on earth).
You'll spend another day in Dingboche for further altitude acclimatisation. Enjoy a hike to Amadablam base camp, Nagarjun Hill or Chukkhung, and enjoy the breathtaking views on offer.
After breakfast, you'll depart Dingboche, ascending the small ridge above the Pheriche valley. At the top of the ridge, you'll find a small stupa, and will enjoy spectacular views of Taweche and Cholatse (6440m) and to the north, Lobuje Peak (6119m) and the snowfields of the Cho La. You'll continue on through wide-open fields, before crossing the Khumbu Khola at Dughla and stopping for a light lunch at the foot of the Khumbu Glacier (the world's highest glacier). In the afternoon you'll ascend a rocky trail, and at the crest of the ridge pass
a line of memorial cairns (stacks of stones), constructed in memory of the Sherpas and climbers who have died on Everest expeditions during the last five decades. You'll take in majestic views of Pumori (7145m), Lingtren (6697m), Khumbutse (6623m) and Changtse (7550m), then continue along your trek, following the valley stream to the lodge at Lobuche where you'll spend the night.,
Departing Lobuche early morning, you'll follow the broad valley that runs parallel to the Khumbu Glacier, taking a gradual ascent that will enable you to build up the slow and steady rhythm that is necessary when walking at these altitudes. Upon reaching the moraines of the Changri Nup Glacier, you'll reach a rocky trail lined with cairns which eventually leads to the glacial sands of Gorak Shep (5160m). After stopping for a quick bite to eat, it's time to gear up and head onwards to Everest Base Camp! After around 3 hours, you'll reach your destination, where your breath will be taken away by the truly astonishing views of the world's tallest mountain, along with a tapestry of glaciers, lakes, caves, and the notorious Everest Ice Fall (regarded as the most dangerous section of the mountain). Afterwards, you'll return to Gorak Shep, where you'll enjoy an early dinner before heading to bed, to prepare for an early start the following day.
Today is all about breathtaking vistas! Departing early to avoid the morning clouds, you'll make the fairly steep ascent to Kala Pattar (5545 m) enjoying stunning views of the surrounding peaks along the way. Upon reaching the summit, you'll experience a panorama of Everest that is beyond your wildest dreams, and is sure to take your breath away! After that, it's back to your camp at Gorak Shep, where you'll pack your bags and enjoy some breakfast, before setting of to Lobuche and Thugla where you'll stop for some lunch. You'll then cross Khumbu Khola and ascend the valley below Cholatse to Pheriche, where you'll spend the night. (it's a tough day with approx 8 hours of walking so your leader will decide where to stop for the night based on how your group is feeling).
Making your descent from your camp you'll pass through the small settlements at Orsho and Shomare and then through Lower Pangboche where you'll reach the suspension bridge over the Imja Khola River. You'll then ascend back to Tengboche to visit its eponymous monastery (which, according to legend was founded by Lama Sange Dorjee), and the nearby Sherpa Heritage Foundation museum.
Departing Tengboche you'll descend steeply passing through scenic juniper forest dotted with juniper, rhododendron and fir. Continue along the trail above the valley through Shanasa and on to Namche Bazaar, before making the steep descent to the large suspension bridge that spans the Dudh Kosi River. You'll continue on through Jorsale to Monjo where you'll spend the night.
After breakfast, you'll depart for your final day of trekking. The trail to your destination is a scenic one, fringed by blue pine and rhododendron forest, and boasting stunning views of Kusum Kangaru. You'll arrive in Lukla in the afternoon, where you'll bid farewell to your Sherpa crew, and celebrate your achievement with some food and a few drinks before heading to bed ready for your flight to Kathmandu the following morning.
Weather permitting, you'll take a short flight to Kathmandu, where you'll check in to your hotel and have time to enjoy the city. Explore the city's museums or landmarks; or the myriad local markets where you'll find all manner of locally-made goods and handicrafts. Spend your final night with the rest of the group reminiscing on your adventures and celebrating your remarkable achievements.
It's departure time, bid 'Namaste' to this amazing place, and board your flight home, taking with you some extraordinary stories and memories that will stay with you forever.
