Dolphin watching portugal

Day 2 - Swim With Wild Dolphins

We'll start the day with a continental breakfast to give us the fuel we'll need for an awesome day of activities. We'll head out on a rigid inflatable boat to tick off one of the most popular Bookitlist experiences the world over, by swimming with wild dolphins.

After a briefing we'll have the chance to swim with them in their natural environment, seeing how they play and dart around without the confines of captivity. An ethereal experience, the weightlessness of being submerged in Mediterranean waters and an almost telepathic understanding with these highly intelligent aquatic mammals. A truly unforgettable experience.

If you'd rather watch from on board the boat that's also an option.

Day 3 - Fly To Pico

Today we will fly to Pico. The timing of the flight is not set in stone as it will depend on season and availability. We'll have either a free morning or free afternoon depending on the time of flight. On arrival, we'll transfer to the hotel and have a free evening tonight on the volcanic paradise of Pico.

Day 4 - Tour Of Pico

Today we'll explore the lush volcanic flora of Pico beginning with a tour of the Vinhas da Criação Velha vineyards. We'll then get to amble across the trails with Mount Pico standing proud in the background. Visiting a local winery to sample some of the delicious regional offerings.

We'll round off the delicious samplings with an island lunch at a local restaurant. Peruse ports and villages dotted across the rugged terrain before heading to the stunning Gruta da Torres, Portugal's largest lava tube. Get up close and personal to its contours and textures by examining it from the inside!

End the day with a trip to the Wine Museum of Pico to round off the process of understanding the island's wine roots, from soil to grape to bottle to pouring.

Day 5 - Whale and Dolphin Watching and Thematic Tour

In the morning we'll take a short ride to Lajes do Pico. This old whaling village is where we'll set sail from as we head out on a RIB to go whale and dolphin watching! To round of the day, we'll head to the whalers' museum to learn how Azores went from a hotbed of whaling to a region of conversation.

The old whaling station has been thankfully converted to a museum and is just a short ride away from the lookout point, where we'll head to gaze through binoculars and spot even more of these gentle giants.

Day 6 - Fly to São Miguel

Today you will fly back to São Miguel. Times will depend on availability and season but you will either enjoy breakfast at the hotel before leaving or it will be boxed up to take with you.

The flight can be either in the morning, the afternoon or in the evening.

Whale Watching

Day 7 - Whale Watching

We dive deeper today into the azure waters of the Azores. Despite being situated in the same archipelago there is every chance today sightings will be completely different in size, proximity and species from your previous outing earlier in the week!

You may also spot some cool species such as seabirds and turtles that you might not expect. To help connect with the wildlife and learn more about their precious eco-system a marine biologist will join us to help enlighten us as to the intricacies and importance of the seafaring wildlife.

The timing of the excursion will depend on sea conditions so we'll have either a free morning and the excursion in the afternoon or vice versa.

Day 8 - Departure

Today our Azorean adventure comes to an end. If you have time for one last breakfast then please enjoy a delicious start to the day, if you are stretched for the time we'll box it up for you to take with you so you'll be well fed either way!
