Jordan to lift COVID restrictions on international travellers
Last week Jordan announced it would ease coronavirus-related restrictions on foreign arrivals, in a major boost to its tourism industry.
The country's tourism board said visitors will no longer be required to present proof of a negative PCR test before entering the country, or take a further PCR test upon arrival at airports and other entry points.
Rich in history and culture and rugged natural beauty, Jordan is a popular destination amongst travellers. Its economy is heavily reliant on tourism, with the industry accounting for nearly 20% of GDP in 2019!
The country best known for the breathaking rock-hewn city of Petra, which was designated one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in 2007, and prior to the pandemic, attracted some 1 million visitors every year!
There is optimism that the new travel rules should provide a major boost to Jordan's economy.
“We hope the relaxing of previous restrictions will help once again the recovery of tourism to the kingdom and ease access for travellers planning their trips to Jordan”,
Abed Al-Razzaq Arabiyat, managing director of Jordan's tourism board said last Thursday.
Visitors entering the country from March 1 will solely be required to sign a form pledging to get tested should they present any coronavirus symptoms, and to isolate should they receive a positive test.
