Caribbean island celebrates reopening by offering holidaymakers free hotel stays!
The beautiful Caribbean island of Curaçao is removing Coronavirus restrictions and is celebrating by offering tourists a free night's stay in a hotel.
A Dutch overseas territory, Curaçao is one of the ABC islands (the three westernmost islands of the Leeward Antilles) with Aruba and Bonaire and is renowned for its colourful towns, picture-perfect beaches, and extensive coral reefs which are home to an incredible diversity of marine life.
Although the island has been open to holidaymakers since January, until now, an island-wide nighttime curfew was in place, along with capacity restrictions on bars, restaurants and attractions.
However, thanks to successful vaccination efforts, current infection rates are extremely low (just 0.15% over the last three weeks) and the island's tourist board is hoping to attract international holidaymakers by offering every fourth night free at participating hotels.

In a recent press release, Paul Pennicook, chief executive officer of the Curaçao Tourist Board, expressed his optimism that the scheme would provide a welcome boost to the island's economy.
“Having gone through a difficult 2020, the hospitality and tourism industry is now making an aggressive comeback and travellers are eager to get away this summer.
With an even bigger desire to serve our visitors, paired with new hotel deals and immersive outdoor adventures, Curaçao is primed for travellers to create meaningful experiences this season.”
The offer will run from June 19 through to October 30, (though bookings must be made by June 29) and visitors will need to complete pre-departure paperwork, provide proof of a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of their departure, and schedule a rapid antigen test on the third day of their trip.
For UK-based holidaymakers, Curaçao is currently on the Amber List, though with low infection rates and the success of their ongoing vaccination drive, there's optimism that it could be moved to the green list in the near future, and with its picturesque scenery and laid-back, welcoming atmosphere, it could be the perfect destination for a post-lockdown trip.
